Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
