LeBron James's Legendary Point-Scoring Streak Concludes, Yet Los Angeles Secure Triumph Over Toronto.

The Lakers star knew his monumental streak of putting up 10+ points was at risk. In that crucial moment, however, he wasn't bothered.

The right decision meant distributing the ball – so he did. With that selfless act, his remarkable run finished.

James's astounding streak of 1,297 consecutive NBA regular season outings scoring at least ten concluded on Thursday night, when basketball's greatest scorer had only a mere eight points in the Los Angeles Lakers' close victory over Toronto. He made the clutch helper, finding Rui Hachimura to hit a triple as time expired.

“None,” James stated when asked regarding the conclusion of his run. “The team got the victory.”

A Team-First Play Secures Victory

James could have sought to clinch the game – and extended the streak – with the last shot, but he chose to pass to Hachimura on the wing. Hachimura sank it, with LeBron raised his arms triumphantly.

“Just playing the game the right way. Make the right play,” James noted. That has always been how I operate. That is the way I was taught the game. I've played that way my whole career.”

The Streak's End Game

James re-entered the floor one last time with just over five minutes left, the result and his personal record up for grabs. He had six points on a 3-for-15 performance then.

He managed a basket at 1:46 left to tie the game then missed a 14-footer with 1:01 left that might have pushed him into double figures.

He didn’t take one more attempt – though the opportunity was there. Austin Reaves passed him the ball in the waning seconds, but James opted to make the extra pass instead of shooting.

“The basketball gods, when you play it the right way, they often bless you,” Redick added.

A Look Back at a Monumental Record

James's streak began over eighteen years ago. It was, by far the most extended double-digit streak in professional basketball: Michael Jordan previously held a streak of 866 consecutive double-digit scoring games, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recorded 787 such games, and Karl Malone recorded at 575.

“He’s such a pass-first superstar,” remarked teammate a fellow Laker.

He focuses on playing hoops. The chance was there but because of who he is on the court and his personality as a person, he executed the team play, passed it to Rui and secured the game.”

Scoring in double figures had typically been an afterthought long before the start of fourth quarters. Over the course of the record, he had reached the 10-point mark by the beginning of the final quarter over twelve hundred times before this game.

But two of those unusual games below ten points through three quarters took place just days before: He had nine going into the fourth against Dallas on 28 November, then had six going into the fourth against Phoenix earlier in the week.

He succeeded in preserve the record against the Suns. In the following contest, it finished – yet he was celebrating regardless.
