An investigation has found that close to 90 aircraft journeys linked to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein allegedly arrived at and departed from British airports, with some reportedly having onboard British women who allege they were exploited by the convicted sex offender.
These aviation records were part of a trove of court documents and papers made public by Epsteinâs estate that have been released over the previous twelve months. The analysis uncovered 87 flights tied to Epstein â including many that were hitherto undisclosed â coming into or leaving from British airfields between the start of the 1990s and 2018.
Unidentified female passengers were recorded among the individuals flying to and from the UK. Crucially, 15 of these UK flights took place after Epsteinâs 2008 conviction for soliciting sex from a child.
âIt was âastonishingâ that there had never been a âthorough probe in the UKâ into his operations in the country,â remarked American attorneys acting for hundreds of Epstein victims.
Evidence from one of the British victims was instrumental in convicting Epsteinâs associate socialite Ghislaine Maxwell of child sex-trafficking in the US in 2021. However, that individual has never been contacted by UK authorities, as stated by her Florida-based lawyer.
In a response, the the Met said they had ânot been provided with any additional information that would support restarting the inquiry.â They added, âShould fresh and pertinent evidence be presented to us, including any resulting from the release of material in the US, we will evaluate it.â
Proposed legislation to make public every document held by the US government in relation to Epstein passed the House and Senate last month. The Department of Justice has until 19 December to comply. Hundreds of thousands of files are expected to be released.
Separately, a US judge ruled last week that the DOJ could make public investigative materials from a trafficking prosecution against Maxwell, Epsteinâs long-term associate, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence over the charges.
