Liam Neeson has lent his narration to a recent film that casts doubt on the legitimacy of immunizations and lauds one-time government figure RFK Jr.
Called "Plague of Corruption," the film is adapted from a bestselling book written by a controversial scientist, who rose to infamy during the health crisis for allegations that the virus was linked to a problematic version of the seasonal immunization.
The publication's collaborator, a producer, has previously authored books with controversial figure a known commentator. He took to social media celebrating Neeson's participation in the documentary.
The team of Neeson have released a comment pushing back against claims that he supports anti-immunization sentiments.
"We all understand that unethical practices may occur within the medical sector, but that cannot be conflated with opposition to vaccines," the response explains. "He is not, and remains not, anti-vaccination. His extensive work with the global charity reinforces his consistent support for global immunisation initiatives."
It added that the performer was not involved in crafting the documentary's messaging and that concerns about its content ought to go to the creators.
In the film, the script spoken by Neeson makes several provocative claims:
It further cites a past television report about AIDS medication trials on children, which was afterwards the subject of a BBC apology by the corporation for unbalanced reporting.
In recent weeks, RFK Jr directed the national health agency to alter its longstanding position that there is no causal relationship between immunizations and autism spectrum disorder. This assertion is also referenced in the film, despite a recent study from the WHO reiterating no connection has been found.
Standing in contrast to the documentary's tone, Neeson has formerly voiced strong support for vaccines in his position as a Unicef global ambassador.
Previously, he described vaccines as "an extraordinary triumph," adding that "The discourse about vaccines in recent years has forgotten how much good they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest shared accomplishments in human history."
The documentary finishes with Neeson's voice saying, "This isn't the finish of our narrative. This is the beginning of a fresh chapter."
