It is a glowing feature in a publication that the president has long exalted – but for one catch. The magazine's cover photo, he stated, ""might be the most terrible in history".
Time magazine's tribute to the president's involvement in mediating a ceasefire in Gaza, featured on its November 10 cover, was paired with a photo of the president captured from underneath and with the sun shining from the back.
The result, Trump claims, is ""extremely poor".
"Time wrote a quite favorable story about me, but the photo may be the Worst of All Time", he shared on Truth Social.
“My hair was obscured, and then there was something floating my head that appeared as a hovering crown, but quite miniature. Really weird! I have never liked being captured from low angles, but this is a super bad image, and it should be denounced. Why did they choose this, and why?”
Donald Trump has shown obvious his ambition to feature on the cover of Time and accomplished it multiple times in the past year. This fixation has made it as far as the president's resorts – in 2017, the editors demanded to remove mocked up covers shown in some of his properties.
The most recent cover image was shot by a photographer for a news agency at the presidential residence on 5 October.
The shot's viewpoint highlighted negatively his chin and neck area – an opportunity that the governor of California Gavin Newsom did not miss, with his communications team tweeting a version with the offending area obscured.
{The Israeli captives held in Gaza have been liberated under the first phase of the president's diplomatic initiative, together with a release of Palestinian detainees. The deal could be a signature achievement of his next term, and it might signify a key shift for the region.
At the same time, a defence of the president’s appearance has emerged from unusual quarters: the spokesperson at Russia’s ministry of foreign affairs came forward to denounce the "revealing" photo selection.
"It’s astonishing: a photo says more about those who chose it than about the individual pictured. Just unwell persons, people obsessed with malice and animosity –perhaps even perverts – could have selected such an image", the official shared on Telegram.
In light of the positive pictures of Biden that that magazine featured on the front, notwithstanding his health issues, the story is simply self-incriminating for Time", she noted.
The response to the president's inquiries – why did they choose this, and why? – could be related to creatively capturing a feeling of authority stated by a picture editor, Guardian Australia’s picture editor.
The photograph technically technically is good," she notes. "They picked this image because they wanted Trump to look heroic. Staring up at someone evokes a feeling of their grandeur and the president's visage actually looks contemplative and almost slightly angelic. It's rare you see pictures of him in such a serene moment – the photo appears gentle."
His hair looks erased because the light from behind has bleached that section of the image, generating a radiant circle, she says. Although the story’s headline pairs nicely with the president's look in the image, "one cannot constantly gratify the subject matter."
"No one likes being captured from low angles, and while all of the artistic aspects of the image are highly effective, the aesthetics are not complimentary."
The publication contacted the magazine for a statement.
